Intel McAfee SaaS EOL

MxLogic drawing to a close…But where next? What are the MxLogic alternatives?

MxLogic slowly draws to a close leaving many in the clutches of alternative email security vendors. Change can be tough for admins and users alike…what changes has the market seen?

The announcement was made back in October 2015 and includes all of the following services:

  • MxLogic / McAfee Email Gateway
  • MxLogic / McAfee Email Protection
  • MxLogic / McAfee Quarantine Manager
  • MxLogic / McAfee SaaS Email Archiving
  • MxLogic / McAfee SaaS Email Encryption
  • MxLogic / McAfee SaaS Email Protection
  • MxLogic / McAfee SaaS Email Protection and Continuity
  • MxLogic / McAfee SaaS Endpoint and Email Protection

How this will affect you

As of January 11th, 2017, these MxLogic products and services will no longer be supported by or maintained by Intel Security in any capacity.

The end of life means that, after that date, should any new viruses, malware, or other malicious software being developed and released, your emails will not be protected from them if you continue to run the outdated McAfee SaaS services.

Similarly, if any bugs in the MxLogic services are discovered, or if they conflict with later editions of operating systems such as a new Windows or Mac update, Intel Security (McAfee) won’t fix the problem.

What are the MxLogic alternative service options?

Intel has recommended Proofpoint Essentials as the alternative solution through parity. There has been a lot of rhetoric from alternative vendors since the announcement. Proofpoint appointed Spambrella as a strategic distribution partner back in 2015 so we very well versed with the offering. The features and similarities between Mxlogic and Proofpoint Essentials are as close as you will see in the market. Spambrella also provides the technology and tools to automatically migrate accounts, customers, across to Proofpoint so it is little for partners or customers to manage.

Complications – Intermedia have relied on MxLogic services for many years and have reported 1M users. Intermedia took the decision to build an in-house email security service. This is not the desired solution to many which have caused irritation. Intermedia will not connect to Proofpoint over port 25 without double scanning and causing all mail to fall into your junk folder. Spambrella has developed a solution.

There has also been a lot of forum chaos regarding outages that are not accurate. The service has experienced ‘mail-delays’ and ‘log timing delays’ in the US, the EU DC has performed perfectly fine. The US DC is having major service upgrades until the end of the year and will be the most state of the art technology service globally.
