Email delivery status ‘deferred’
Delivery Status Deferred:
Emails get deferred at Spambrella if the destination SMTP server is down or if there is a temporary network issue with the receiving server.
Steps to resolve:
Deferred at customer server –
- The receiving server should be investigated – Please check the receiving server’s log details which should help identify the connection issue.
Deferred at Spambrella –
- If the E-mails are getting deferred at Spambrella end, these emails will be automatically retried once every 5min, 15min, 30min and 1 hour after that for the next 30 days. There is no manual flush involved or supported in this case.
Question – When an inbound email has a status of ‘deferred’ showing in the logs, how often is it retried?
Answer – The retries are as follows: Immediately, after the first failed attempt, then – Once per minute for 5 minutes, then – Every 10 minutes for 30 minutes, then – Every 30 minutes for 1 hour, then – Once per hour for 24 hours, then – Once every 24 hours for 30 days. Unfortunately these times cannot be adjusted.
