Situation – Emails bounce back with the error Address Lookup Failed.
Solution – Check the domain settings and user address settings.

Email Bounces with the Message Address Lookup Failed

This error occurs when Enable email relay is enabled and someone tries to send an email to a recipient address that is not registered with the customer account and the recipient domain is configured in Spambrella with an SMTP Destination server that refuses to accept address verification probes.

We see this error occur when all the below conditions are met.

  • The customer has the domain launched and ready to use, i.e. Enable email relay is enabled.
  • An email is sent to a non-registered address for the said domain.
  • The domain is configured properly in the interface, but the mail server refuses to accept address verification probes.
